Optiv (Cause 4 Concern) N.A Tour Mix

Drum and bass is set to hit the place in July of 2011, when Optiv touches down in Canada for his North American tour. Originally known as nCode, Cause 4 Concern formed back in 1999 when their love for drum and bass brought them together, and within only a few months it was evident that Optiv, Mark C, and Stuart were an undeniably perfect collaboration. After imprinting their own labels; Cause 4 Concern Recordings and Cause 4 Concern Limited, they had releases under the labels, BC Presents, Metro, Quarantine, and Virus. Now, with the success of their album 'Pandemic', released in 2009, Cause 4 Concern is receiving an impressive amount of positive feedback and attention. Cyber Groove Productions has provided Bassline-Therapy with a mix to share with you and to support Optivs up-coming tour, and it's mixed by Optiv himself ;)! Any further information on the tour and dates will be given as time unfolds!

DUBSTEP RANT: X OUT BRITNEYSTEP

Okay, so I have never done a random post like this before, but this is my blog after all, so ranting is occasionally acceptable. For the people who actually LIKE and LISTEN to dubstep on a daily basis, this is just sad. Britney Spears released her new britney-step (NOT dubstep) tune called "Hold It Against Me" a couple weeks back, and believe me Britney, I'm most definitely holding this atrocious piece of crap against you! Does it not bother anyone else that when dubstep finally makes it onto radio, it's because of Britney Spears? Does it not bother anyone else that this song is a pitiful imitation of dubstep, and it's the one getting all the exposure? THIS would be the death of good dubstep, and thankfully for those of us who listen to and love the genre, we can distinguish the difference between a song that contains half a wobble(cough*britney*cough), and a chune that showers you in grime. I'm all for the attention and exposure of dubstep, but if that means britney spears is responsible, then EFF that. For those of you who have not heard this chune yet, save yourself the disappointment and don't even bother, hence why I refuse to link it within my blog. I mean, with dubstep growing exponentially, shouldn't it be represented to the public for what it is? The scene has a plethora of talented individuals, and they are the one's who define dubstep, so it puzzles me why someone who has absolutely NO relation to the scene or genre is now going to be an icon for little teeny-boppers and n00bs in the world of dubstep. As Flux Pavilion tweeted, its not DUBSTEP, it's britney-step, so do not confuse the two....EVER.

EMSAY @ York Presents: R.A.D.D

RUB-A-DUB-DUB was brought to you by the Electronic Music Society at York University and Winters college. Taking place on Friday January 14th, 2011 in Vanier college, this event shook the floorboards with hard-hitting bass and mangled the face of many overly satisfied students. The line-up of deejays was specifically chosen and voted by EMSAY, so of course we brought you ONLY the best at York University. To start the night off we had Dj Marshy on decks, then SiezVres Palace who tore up the dance floor with their lively electronic, dub-house set. Their energy was contagious to the audience and myself, and the more they hyped up, the more the crowd hyped up. By the time midnight rolled around, the crowd was wobbly (in a good way) with their ears half-full of grime and their stomachs splashed with liquor. It was perfect timing for Gilts debut.

Gilt mashin' up the floor at Rub-a-dub-dub (left) and artists photo of Gilt (right). Midnight was definitely a candidate for one of the best moments of the night as Rob a.k.a Gilt presented us with the newest bangerz, classic bangerz, and even if you didn't know the song, I guarantee you were still banging your head like a madman. Keep a lookout in the future for Gilt, and reach out to Dub Massive on January 20th at Suba Nightclub if you wish to see him spin! Playing dubstep, drumstep, drum n bass, electro, house, dub-house... and all that jazz ;) I need not to forget to mention that Gilt is also the one who created the eye-catching rub-a-dub-dub poster/flyer!

A perfect ending to the night was as a result of El shifta; the final deejay in the line-up for Rub-a-dub-dub. Dropping ear-gasmic bombs, this chick knows how to keep the crowd hyped with high energy. El shifta spun dubstep, drum n bass, breaks and drumstep, and like the audience, she bobbed her head and body to the therapeutic beats of the night. Overall, Rub-a-dub-dub was a huge success for EMSAY, and EMSAY would like to thank everyone who came out and supported! Look out in the near future for more updates and events brought to you by EMSAY in 2011!

Killpixxie

Who is Killpixxie?
Going by the artist name 'Killpixxie', Rachella Maria B is a refreshingly friendly, musically obsessed, young, new artist . Killpixxie was born on October 27th, 1990 in a next-to-nothing city named Elora in Ontario, Canada. Originally, when she was growing up, she didn't have the luxury of living with bright city lights, high-rise buildings and lacked the conveniency of having everything close to her. In order to pass the time by in an enjoyable manner, she would occupy herself with the different sounds and styles from a variety of artists as an opportunity to expand her knowledge of music. In terms of musical inspirations, Killpixxie pinpointed Bjork, Lenny Kravitz, Gorillaz and Enigma to be of great importance to her overall influences. In terms of the EDM scene, she mentioned, Marc Romboy, Stephan Bodzin, Mark Henning, Sasha, Monoloc, Smallroom Record Boys, Moby, Fatboy slim and Isolee. Killpixxie's inspirations are limitless, she views many of her close friends within the industry such as; Beat Syndrome, Jeff Keenan, the liquid crew, Subfractal, Erphun, Sisko Electrofanatik, Aki Bergen, D Carbone and Ascion, Heartik and MITA to be sources of inspiration,  and forces of motivation. It wasn't until 2008 that Killpixxie started to take up deejaying on a serious note rather than a meaningless hobby, and about a year later she continued on to start producing her own music. Although her love for music is quite broad, she specifically spins and produces Minimal, Techno and Dark Techno. Not having played any gigs, events or shows yet, Rachella strongly believes in first building a fan-base, sustaining a solid production background and then head into the world of large performances. Although, you could potentially be seeing her very soon at the WMC 2011 Liquid Party, Aruba and a possible Liquid tour in the making.

When questioning Killpixxie about any future plans, or simply where she would like to go she replied, "Well i do this for fun and as a hobby, I just love music in general and I just want to have a voice in the essence of sounds and great basslines :) I love being able to talk with everyone about music and how they view music so I hope to just continue relationships with people in the industry, maybe travel a bit and hopefully reach a good audience with my production and music....at the end of the day, its all about the music and it should be fun!!!". As you can see, Killpixxie's thirst for knowledge is endless, and is something she deeply treasures from her experiences thus far. Her dedication and hard work that included many sleepless nights, and weekends spent alone inside, has now lead her to produce her first EP named 'Rural Roads'. Rural roads will be released on beatport and all other major downloading sites as of March 8th, so keep a look out in the near future for updates and releases from this impressive pixxie. Above I've included all of Killpixxie's social sites including her own blog that she updates daily!

Nero & Skrillex at The Phoenix 02.19.11

[ SOLD OUT ]

With little more than a month left to go, the event featuring Nero & Skrillex at  The Phoenix in downtown Toronto is now sold out. This event was expected to sell out no doubt, but the fact that it sold out this far in advance is phenomenal. Although, for the ones lucky enough, there will be 50 tickets being sold at the door, but for the raised price of $50. You snooze, you lose. I know for a fact there is an astronomical amount of die-hard fans that will be fighting to be the owner of one of those fifty tickets. The anticipation for this event continues to increase daily, so by the time it rolls around, there will be one helluva party going down inside the Phoenix. Good luck to those who weren't fortunate enough to grab a ticket yet, and I hope for your sake that you snag 1/50 tickets left!
