Interview with OPTIV (C4C)

A brief interview I had with Optiv from C4C who's been in the game since '97. His performance at Nocturne for Grindhouse Sessions this night was the kick-off to his North American tour, so I made sure to get the 4-1-1 on what Optiv is all about. Check out his record labels 'Red Light Records' and 'C4C' to hear some of the nastiest tech/neurofunk your ears can handle - if they can that is. By clicking the image above, you will be redirected to the Interview page where you can listen to a 19 min. audio of the interview and a written layout - like the one I did with Bares - will be posted at a later date.

Track list of background music:

1. Smoke Screen - Optiv [Shadybrain]
2. Generation Lost - Optiv [Shadybrain]
3. Brainworm - Optiv [Black Sun Empire]
4. Substance Abuse - Optiv & Mark C4C [Renegade Hardware]

BASSLINE-THERAPY: HYX & HOU5TON

Looks like we got another submission today. This one is from a dubstep, drum n bass and drumstep duo named HYX & HOU5TON from Washington, DC. Affiliated with Black Sun Empire recordings, System recordings and Trillbass, HYX and HOU5TON first started collaborating in 2009 and eventually  evolved into a duo act. At first, they started out with the darker tech vibes of drum n bass and as of 2010 they have been experimenting with and producing more dubstep and drumstep. After a few releases here and there, they have now recently released their 4th studio mix titled 'Nerdstep' which features a well-composed remix of Chase & Status's 'Time'. Their latest drumstep and dubstep tracks - that can be found on the Beatport website - are titled 'Ohm - mega' and 'Sloth', so be sure to check those out! Currently, they have track support from Alvin Risk, Tittsworth, Trillbass, Designer Drugs, Black Sun Empire, Figure and Mayhem. Their up-coming 'PLS DNT STP' remix of Future ghetto is predicted to be nothing short of what is expected of them. To check out some of HYX & HOU5TONS social media sites, click the links below and browse around. I have provided download links to some of their recent productions as well. Enjoy and all feedback is greatly appreciated!

BASSLINE THERAPY PRESENTS: 'NEW GENERATION' MIX

I opened my mail today to find this amazing mix submitted by Eshin. Eshin is a dnb and dubstep DJ, producer and Record Label Co-Owner from New York City. Starting out in 2000, he's steadily made his way into the scene and his 'New Generation' mix - that was dropped today - is gaining respects and support from large names within the industry such as Rusko, Skream and Benga. He has and is collaborating with Direct Drive - a well known staple in the NYC dance scene for well over a decade - and since 2010 he has been partnered with Trigon launching their new record label 'Profound Audio'.

Eshin has performed alongside many artists: Goldie, Total Science, Marcus Intalex, Pendulum, Sub Focus, Chase & Status, Klute, London Elektricity, 16Bit, Borgore and many more. He also co-hosts a premiere drum n bass and dubstep radio show with Trigon in NYC called Outside The Cube. This radio station can be heard on Bassjunkees Radio, one of UK's bass-heavy radio stations. Click the image below to hear the heavy bass mania Eshin has presented in his 'New Generation' Mix, it's pretty f***in nasty and blunt if I do say so myself.

INTERVIEW WITH BARE

My interview with BARE is now UP! Above is a preview of what the interview looks like, if you wish to read the full 4 page interview with one of the hottest producers in the dubstep scene then click on the preview above which will direct you to the interview page. I had the opportunity of interviewing the big 'Bare' after his deadly set at Bassmentality on May 25th, 2011. If you for SOME odd, unexplainable and unacceptable reason have not familiarized yourself with his work yet, then click the link below to hear one of his most recent bangers ;) A big thanks goes out to The Super Maniak for the amazing photos!

Audio Excerpt: OPTIV @ NOCTURNE

Basically, if you missed Optiv's 2-hour extended set at Nocturne Nightclub on the 2nd of June then you fucked up - plain and simple. Here's a 10 min excerpt I recorded from his live set after I had the pleasure of interviewing him. The interview will be posted by June 6th, 2011, so keep a look out. In the meantime, enjoy some of the dark bass-lines Optiv used to shatter, explode and destroy all eardrums present.

Brookes Brothers: In Your Eyes/The Big Blue

The sun is shining, the water is glistening, there isn't any other single better for summer-time listening.  The Brookes Brothers have two new tunes that scream beauty from the rooftops and hammer your body with bass. 'In Your Eyes' and 'The Big Blue' are set to be released on June 6th, 2011, as the final straw of anticipation towards their debut LP album that will be released the same day. Together, these feature a plethora of teeth-clenching bangers and melodically-composed productions as they soar though the colourful fields of drum n bass and flirt with the darkness of dubstep. Being the 3rd single before the album drops, 'The Big Blue' and 'In Your Eyes' are doing a successful job in pumping up the listeners for what is to follow. The dubstep track 'In Your Eyes' has, is, and continues to receive a massive amount of radio play amongst the UK radio stations with its chilled-out reggae vocal vibes of Johnny Osbourne. Not to mention, it was also recently play-listed on Radio 1. To hear the preview of the single, click the links below, and allow those summer vibes flowing in, settle and grow.

XILENT: 'Choose Me' EP

Make way for the young and talented. XILENT's new debut EP titled 'Choose Me' is set to be released June 6th, 2011 (vinyl) and May 30th, 2011 (digital release) after he recently signed with AudioPorn Records. This EP will be released as a 2-part vinyl and a 4-track digital release EP. 'Choose Me' covers a variety of genres from drum n bass to dubstep and even ventures into electro house, so all your personal music preferences are undoubtedly quenched. Although, I would like to specifically pinpoint the only dubstep track on the EP titled 'Choose Me II' as it has been receiving an astronomical amount of positive feedback since its preview was posted a couple weeks prior. It was first posted on Xilents soundcloud where it instantly gained 15, 000 + plays in just under a week and after the 'Choose Me II' debut on UKFdubstep's channel on youtube, it has gained an impressionable 650, 000+ views to-date and continues to rise daily. This tune, and the whole EP itself, is quickly stunning the charts and I can guarantee this is only the beginning of Xilent's rise to the infinite top, and it will not cease to stop at anything.  Below you will find a link to the Youtube video and Xilent's soundcloud as well as all the additional information regarding the 'Choose Me' EP that you will need to know.

Vinyl Release: 06.June.11
Vinyl Part 1: A. Choose Me II / AA. Choose Me I
Vinyl part 2: A. Spectre / AA. Multishapes

Digital Release (EP): 30.May.11
1. Choose Me II [dubstep]
2. Spectre [drum n bass]
3. Multishapes [drum n bass]
4. Choose Me I [electro house]

Now, I want to make it very clear that Choose Me II is not the only track currently gaining massive respect in the industry. Aside from 'Choose Me' (dubstep remix) being chosen as the 'Next Hype' on Zane Lowes Show,  his drum n bass tracks have been gaining recognition globally. Both 'Spectre' and 'Multishapes' have been, and are continually being featured and played on the Crissy Criss 1Xtra show and DJ Hype's Kiss FM show. I don't know about you, but I know that I can't sit still when injecting the hard-hitting drums of these two tracks into my body. His 'Choose Me' (electro-house remix) is also a personal favourite of mine as it instantly casts a feeling of euphoria and causes a plethora of emotional, physiological and psycho-physiogical responses, but of course all of the tracks have successfully done this. Whatever your taste in music may be, Xilent is sure to elicit your undivided attention and please what your ears have been feigning for. Now go ahead and treat yourself to the previews of 'Choose Me', 'Spectre' and 'Multishapes'. I promise that your mind, body and soul will not be disappointed as you find yourself at feeling at home with his smashing, memorable, and well-structured compositions.

Optiv (Cause 4 Concern) N.A Tour Mix

Drum and bass is set to hit the place in July of 2011, when Optiv touches down in Canada for his North American tour. Originally known as nCode, Cause 4 Concern formed back in 1999 when their love for drum and bass brought them together, and within only a few months it was evident that Optiv, Mark C, and Stuart were an undeniably perfect collaboration. After imprinting their own labels; Cause 4 Concern Recordings and Cause 4 Concern Limited, they had releases under the labels, BC Presents, Metro, Quarantine, and Virus. Now, with the success of their album 'Pandemic', released in 2009, Cause 4 Concern is receiving an impressive amount of positive feedback and attention. Cyber Groove Productions has provided Bassline-Therapy with a mix to share with you and to support Optivs up-coming tour, and it's mixed by Optiv himself ;)! Any further information on the tour and dates will be given as time unfolds!
